This 6-week class in water-soluble oils will focus on the basic elements of the medium, while examining and exploring tools to achieve fluidity, allowing for the expression of the form, movement of the brush and an understanding of the usage of mixing agents to achieve specific results. Explore abstract shapes, colors and textures from nature in this 4-session acrylic painting class.  We will create 2 16” x 20” acrylic paintings on canvas with rich layers of colors and shapes using a variety of tools.  Let shapes and images from nature emerge, creating an expressive vision of flowers, leaves or trees. Students will learn to use line, glazing and layering techniques; stamps, stencils and other tools to create nature-inspired images.  Supply List available online.

Welcome spring by creating a colorful and expressive birdhouse for your backyard!  In this 4-hour workshop, you will create a whimsical domicile that any bird would be proud to call home. Using a pre-fab, primed birdhouse as our canvas, we will use pattern and color to elevate your birds to be the envy of the whole flock!  All supplies provided, supply fee $15 (pay artist day of class).

This class will explore pastel painting as well as materials and surfaces that pastel artists use. You will learn basic color theory, how values are ESSENTIAL to great art, and how to use your photographs as inspiration for beautiful paintings.  Chris Behrs teaches art at Cedarburg High School and leads our Children’s Youth Plein Air Camp during the Summer.  He returns to the CCC, this time to teach adults!  He brings 30+ years of experience as a pastel painter.  All supplies included.

WATERCOLOR, BACK TO BASICS with Nancy Montgomery

Working outdoors when weather permits, learn how to capture the mellow, old stone, brick and wood structures in and around Cedarburg using pen and ink techniques with watercolor.  This class offers demos, handouts, one-on-one assistance with focus on perspective to help you create your own unique building renderings. Friday, April 20 10 am – 3pm

Break through the surface of your daily life to create a Soul Portrait Collage and a sense of inner wholeness with emotional grounding as well as an appreciation of your inner aspects.  Through drumming and meditation, you will render your spontaneous background painting.  Express with unexpected tools such as sponges, rollers, scrapers, hands, water spray and brushes.  Explore metaphors and find meaning in the placement of your images as your trust your inner wisdom.  All supplies included.  Sandra Zahn, ATR-BC is available for further consultation.

3 DAY PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP with Thomas Buchs
May 10th - 12th 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (3 day workshop)

Saturday May 19th 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (one day workshop)

You will need your own paints and solvents, (I paint in oils) but you can also paint in Acrylic or Water Soluble oils, at least two 11”x14” , and one 16x20 canvas paint panels (not stretched canvas) Easel or Pochade box , Palette, Paper Towel and a small garbage bag.  Brushes are your choice, but I would suggest a small (1-2-3)and large (6-8-10) filbert and a small and large flat.  And one small liner, and one large flat(2”).

You may arrive one  hour earlier -to set up, and we will take a one hour lunch break. (You can bring a lunch and store it in our fridge.)

Areas I will emphasize include: Composition, Perspective' Color Harmony and Tonal Balance

I will give you personal assistance and critique your work. Depending on the weather, we will paint outdoors in this area, or I will show you how to paint with a plein air feel from photos indoors.
